Mount Sir Donald is the icon of the Rogers Pass area.  The profile of its Northwest Ridge inspires everyone who drives through on the Trans-Canada Highway.  The route boasts some of the finest rock climbing of its grade in the country on a flawless and wonderfully exposed quartzite ridge.  Whether this route has been on your bucket list for a while or you’re looking for that next challenge, come and experience this Canadian classic with us.

Is This For You?

With a total car to summit vertical ascent of over 2000m (6500ft) over a distance of 5km (3mi), the Northwest Ridge of Mount Sir Donald is a serious undertaking.  It requires a high level of fitness and climbing experience.  You should be comfortable with technical climbing up to at least 5.7 and be prepared for up to 12 hours of climbing/descending on summit day.

Itinerary:

Meet at Illecillewaet Campground where we begin hiking at about 11:30am.  A steep 3 -5 hour hike will get us to the Sir Donald bivouac site.  Our camping gear and food can be brought up by porters and we will set up camp and prepare for summit day.  An early start on the second day will set us up for our summit attempt, leaving enough time to hike back down to the highway in the late afternoon/evening.
